2 posts in one day?

Well at this end of the holidays I am trying to cram in as much as possible!

I did a couple of quick layouts this afternoon. Angus is going through a stage of "It's so embarrassing to have photos in scrapbooking magazines," but he did tell me this one was acceptable - whether it was in a mag or not.He didn't have an opinion on this one. I know the photo is not great but I still love it because Thea is not only helping in the kitchen, she is wearing one of Grandma's aprons as well.

another little bag

This one I made for Thea for her birthday. I even lined it! (and then went back and lined all the others as well - must be some sort of insanity)
Thanks for all the love on the other one - and for my girl's birthday wishes. (As for opening up an etsy store Cassie.....I won't be giving up my day job just yet LOL!)
Speaking of day jobs - it's back to school for me on Monday :( I've been working on some preparation stuff since yesterday and am just about over it. I can't believe the holidays have come to an end this quickly. We're squeezing the life out of what's left and just spent the morning cooking up some pikelets to enjoy with cream and banana - yum! And one more last pic of yum - I made these for Thea's birthday as well - butterfly cakes. Grandma used to make these - she was famous for them. I think she would be pretty impressed with my attempt.

birthday girl

I can't believe she is six!!

We had cake and strawberries in the park with friends today which was just lovely. Not too much trouble but still impressive enough - just look at Thea and Lilly's faces at the lighting of the candles!

She had a great day and was totally exhausted at the end of it - as I am sure were most of her friends.

As I usually do on their birthdays I've been looking back through some old photos. I don't think I have shared any of them on this blog before so here she is in all her glory!!

Or should I say gory? We found out at around 30 weeks that Thea was in a breech position and it seemed that there was no budging her so I was booked in for a caesar delivery. The one good thing about this was that the anaesthetist was a keen photographer so when I handed over my old SLR he snapped away madly and we got heaps of fantastic shots. This is one of the least gory - probably because he was making sure he got the clock in the back of the frame there to record the time of her birth.
The bad thing about her being breech was that she had been stuck in there with her legs straight up next to her head for so long that her hips were dislocated. My initial elation at having finally got my beautiful baby girl after so many years was absolutely shattered when I found out that she would have to be trussed up in a von Rosen splint for 3 months. She wasn't all that impressed either as you can see by this pic with Angus and Grandad! She did a fair bit of screaming through those months. Between the splint, a bout of bronchiolitis, reflux, and feeding all day and night I often wonder how the heck we did it. Those were the days. Thankfully Angus was a very easy-going 2 year old. He had to be.
We soon got used to the splint though - it made it easier to carry her around as you can see her here with Macka. She had such a cute little round head ;-)
And it also meant she could be propped up to see the world all the better. This shot still makes me giggle.
Another thing that made me giggle tonight was a little reminiscing in the car on the way home from dinner. I remember Mum saying to Thea one day when she was a baby, "What are those holes there in your face?" (referring to her dimples). Angus piped up and replied, "Nanna, they're for the snot to come out!" (referring to her nose!!!).
Ahhh...kids...what the heck did we do with ourselves before they came along?

treasure

We enjoyed lunch on the beach today while a couple of walls were being painted here. We also spent a bit of time searching the rocks for treasure. We found some good stuff! (which we returned after photographing of course).
This seagull put on a terrible performance when we didn't share our lunch!
We're now about to spend the rest of the afternoon dipping some strawberries in chocolate ready for the birthday celebrations tomorrow.

the July jack...

...is up on the new Aussie Scrap Jack site. This month we are jacking Charmane Koch. Her layout featured a beautiful pregnant belly shot so a few of us took it as a great opportunity to scrap a similar photo. I had this one of Renita pregnant with Eli and couldn't wait to use it. It's funny how Thea was obsessed with Eli before he was even born! I did a digital layout this month - I thought it was something fun to try and I am rather pleased with how it turned out.
Our guest jacker this month is the lovely Peg Hewitt. She also got her two sons to join in as guest jackers too; such a great idea (especially seeing it is school holidays).

SOOOoooooo if you haven't tried your hand at joining in the scrapjack challenge - here's an opportunity to do something a bit different (I'm glad I did!).

Speaking of school holidays.....we are at the halfway mark now and I am feeling like they are shrinking away from me and I haven't got enough time to jam everything in. It is a horrible thought that this time next week I will be at work instead of home all warm and snug in my PJs still at this time of the day. Sigh.
We've had the air show on here all weekend, with planes flying directly over our house for 3 days non-stop. It was nice to see them - I just wish the volume on their soundtrack could have been turned down - I was hearing them in my sleep last night!
Instead of scrapping this weekend I did a bit of sewing. I've been recycling some old jeans and screen printing the fabric with a little citrus design (courtesy of my scanner and some cut up oranges LOL!). I've made three of these little cosmetic bags so far, using a pattern I found here. It's been fun to give the sewing machine a bit of a go - I only managed to break 4 needles!!!

July Ribbon Club

Is up on the Craft Queen site - some very very different ribbons, cotton lace and velvet this month. I love a challenge!!

All the layouts, including one of my favourites from our first ever trip to the show, are in the gallery here.

If you are a Craft Queen fan and you haven't signed up for the newsletter yet, get ye over there and sign up - so many new things to look at. Nicole has also loaded a few to the Craft Queen blog as well.

berries, beach and backyard

Downloading the photos from today, I had to think up a name for the folder. I went with '2009 07 02 berries, beach and backyard' so I figured it would also be a worthy blog post title. (It's about as close to organised on this computer as I get.)

We had morning tea with friends at Bargara and stopped in to pick up some strawberries on the way there. They were absolutely delicious - fresh from the farm YUM! We inquired about picking some ourselves but that won't be happening until the school holidays in September. The only photos of the strawberries were blurry - we ate them all very quickly!

We only stopped at the beach for a short while - long enough to dip our feet and muck around. The water was freezing but there were people swimming!

And in the backyard this afternoon was one very-scary-frangipani-tree-wrecking-fairy on roller skates and one very tolerant boy of my dreams.
Last but not least....another layout from Sunday - a ridiculously easy one using these butterflies. I love it when a layout comes together so simply but effectively.

wednesday, 7 sleeps to go....

...before Thea's birthday. Yes, counting is now officially allowed. Poor kid hasn't had the best start to the holidays and we've had a trip to the doctor this afternoon to find out that the non-stop-all-day-all-night-coughing is indeed 'just' another virus. Thankfully I can hear snoring coming from her room now and it is a welcome change.

Despite the sleep deprivation, we are still trying to enjoy ourselves. We even joined friends at the movies this morning to see Ice Age 3 (oops! spreading the germs??).

I started the week off well with a bit of scrapping but yesterday moved on to some more experimenting with printmaking. Nothing of that to share - yet. But here are a few more layouts:

There is something very strange going on with the colour of this one - but then again my camera does seem to have a mind of its own these days.

Same problem here with the image but I think the photo and the flowers really stand out so all is good. How cool are these Prima rainbow coloured flowers???
