I can't believe she is six!!
We had cake and strawberries in the park with friends today which was just lovely. Not too much trouble but still impressive enough - just look at Thea and Lilly's faces at the lighting of the candles!
She had a great day and was totally exhausted at the end of it - as I am sure were most of her friends.
As I usually do on their birthdays I've been looking back through some old photos. I don't think I have shared any of them on this blog before so here she is in all her glory!!
Or should I say gory? We found out at around 30 weeks that Thea was in a breech position and it seemed that there was no budging her so I was booked in for a caesar delivery. The one good thing about this was that the anaesthetist was a keen photographer so when I handed over my old SLR he snapped away madly and we got heaps of fantastic shots. This is one of the least gory - probably because he was making sure he got the clock in the back of the frame there to record the time of her birth.

The bad thing about her being breech was that she had been stuck in there with her legs straight up next to her head for so long that her hips were dislocated. My initial elation at having finally got my beautiful baby girl after so many years was absolutely shattered when I found out that she would have to be trussed up in a
von Rosen splint for 3 months. She wasn't all that impressed either as you can see by this pic with Angus and Grandad! She did a fair bit of screaming through those months. Between the splint, a bout of bronchiolitis, reflux, and feeding all day and night I often wonder how the heck we did it. Those were the days. Thankfully Angus was a very easy-going 2 year old. He had to be.

We soon got used to the splint though - it made it easier to carry her around as you can see her here with Macka. She had such a cute little round head ;-)

And it also meant she could be propped up to see the world all the better. This shot still makes me giggle.

Another thing that made me giggle tonight was a little reminiscing in the car on the way home from dinner. I remember Mum saying to Thea one day when she was a baby, "What are those holes there in your face?" (referring to her dimples). Angus piped up and replied, "Nanna, they're for the snot to come out!" (referring to her nose!!!).
Ahhh...kids...what the heck did we do with ourselves before they came along?
